He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives

  5. How did the vision of C.A.R.E. begin?
  6. C.A.R.E., Inc. started as a community based non-profit organization to provide consultation, advocacy, resources and education to the Kokomo, Indiana community and surrounding communities with a desire to help advocate for survivors of ritual abuse.

C.A.R.E., Inc. received its incorporation status as a non-profit organization on December 29, 1992, and received the 501(c)(3) status on December 5, 1994.

C.A.R.E., Inc. has received national and international status for providing consultation, advocacy, resources, and education to survivors of severe trauma and ritual abuse, and to those who work with them.  C.A.R.E., Inc. has presented on the topic of ritual abuse at local, regional, national and international conferences.  C.A.R.E., Inc. has given many free seminars about ritual abuse to churches and small organizations.

C.A.R.E.,Inc. founders, Cheryl Knight and Jo Getzinger, co-authored the book, Caregiving: The Cornerstone of Healing, which provides information on how to minister to ritual abuse survivors.  C.A.R.E., Inc. also produced the first publication of the CARE CONNECTION newsletter in the spring of 1995.  The newsletter is published on a quarterly basis and offers information for survivors, pastors, caregivers, and therapists on the topic of ritual and cult abuse.  The book and the newsletter both enjoy a national and international readership.

C.A.R.E., Inc. has provided consultations with survivors, therapists, organizations, clergy, and support people throughout the United States, Canada, England, Germany, and Australia concerning ritual and cult abuse.  C.A.R.E. staff discuss therapeutic treatment issues, how to develop community support networks, resources, and advocacy concerns.

C.A.R.E., Inc. has purchased booth space at national and international conferences to distribute educational material concerning ritual abuse.

C.A.R.E., Inc. hired Jo Getzinger, Cheryl Knight, and Chris Coursey as staff members.  The primary focus of the ministry continues to target satanic ritual abuse and survivors of trauma for intensive counseling treatment (3-15 hours of treatment per week).

C.A.R.E., Inc. relocated to Baldwin, Michigan with plans to incorporate more staff to meet the growth of the organization as defined in the business plan.

  7. What do you do at C.A.R.E., Inc?
  8. C.A.R.E., Inc. is a non-profit organization reflecting Christian values and beliefs whose singular purpose is to empower severely wounded men, women, and children to receive and live in the power of the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord in becoming “oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.”  We believe that the Lord heals and He heals completely.  The goal of every Christian is to live in the power of the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord; it is just more difficult for wounded people to know HOW to take the steps in faith.  Wounded people are overwhelmed with fear, unbelief, pride and rebellion, which keep them from the ever-present flow of the spirit of God. Bible studies, Praise and Worship, fellowship in Christian community, and prayer sessions help them overcome their fears and unbelief and lay down their pride and rebellion to serve their Risen Savior in truth and power.

  9. What does your program offer?
  10. God has called us to be trainers and for the equipping of others to be a resource in their own communities to survivors of ritual abuse. Our goal is to offer an intensive time for the survivor to explore and conquer through Jesus Christ much of the demonic constructs, trauma and programming while teaching the survivor’s support team to be empowered to finish the work with the survivor after returning to their own community. While much can be accomplished in the intensive sessions, our program is NOT a replacement or a “quick-fix” alternative to ongoing support or professional counseling if needed.   The C.A.R.E. staff is not available to pick up a national caseload of counselees.  Rather, we offer follow-up support to the team (pastor, therapist or caregiver) by phone appointments and further intensives as needed after the first intensive session is complete.

  11. What kind of counseling do you offer?
  12. We offer a prayer ministry, which we have found to be very successful.  There are no specific methods used other than prayer.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the author of all healing, and it comes directly through Him.

We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to administrate truth to the inner being of a person.

We believe that Jesus Christ has come to proclaim freedom to the captives, to free prisoners from darkness, and to heal the broken hearted.

We believe that many people with depression, obsession, panic attacks, suicidal ideations, anorexia/bulimia, insomnia, homosexuality, etc. have unhealed sin issues in their lives that have not been resolved.

Prayer with discernment is a very powerful tool of healing.

“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity.” Jeremiah 29:11-14

"See now that I myself am He! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand.” Deuteronomy 32:39

“I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.” 2 Kings 20:5

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

“I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you." Ps 41:4

“They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.” Isaiah 19:22

“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the LORD, because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.” Jeremiah 30:17

We stand on God’s promises in His Word for healing.  His Word heals not only memories, but also He shows that forgiveness and repentance are necessary ingredients for healing.  God shows what is necessary for healing in a session and then He proceeds to bring that person to the place HE wants them to be.

  13. What is an intensive session?
  14. An intensive session is a session that lasts more than 3 hrs and can last up to 6 hours per day. Due to personal differences in abilities and preferences of how much time per day can be devoted to healing, we schedule intensives based on 3-hour intervals per day.  Half days (3 hours each day) to full days (6 hours each day) can be reserved for a week or part of a week, depending on the individual need.  There can be as many breaks as the survivor feels they may need during the day.  There is a mandatory lunch break for one hour during the day.  The survivor and their support team designate how many hours and how many days the session will last.

  15. Is your prayer ministry similar to Theophostic?
  16. We have been through Ed Smith’s Theophostic training and I believe if you asked Ed if we were similar he would say “yes.”  We have a similar approach and our beliefs are the same.

  17. How are you different than other Christian Counseling Centers?
  18. We believe our ministry is different in that we also use community as a healing agent.  Many wounded people have not learned how to bond with others.  They have had very poor relational skills (too clingy, too distant, unable to share themselves with others, unable to receive, unable to trust, etc.)  In community, situations occur where bonding is a necessary part of the healing process.  Each person receives a prayer partner, an accountability partner, and a mentor, plus a prayer counselor.  We have seen God do tremendous work through community.  Therefore healing includes responsibility toward God, self and others, communication, helping others, reaching out and being responsible to an entire community for their behaviors, actions and personal goals.  We look for spiritual growth as an indicator of healing.

  19. How does a survivor know when he/she is prepared for intensive work?
  20. A survivor needs to have at least one stable, trusted support person who is willing to learn, be led by the Holy Spirit, and is willing to accompany the survivor to the C.A.R.E. facility.  When this is established, the survivor is ready to pray with the person for discernment on the timing of scheduling an intensive.   The more support team members the survivor can establish, the better resources to offer support for ongoing healing.  We have experienced that the more support the person has, the greater strides they are able to make during the intensive sessions.  It is recommended that a solid Christian foundation be observed in the survivor (accomplished through discipleship and a trusting relationship with a support person who exemplifies Christ) before scheduling an intensive.  It is not necessary that the survivor come to the session with extensive knowledge of his/her internal system; however, it is critical that some parts of the system have a personal trusting relationship with Jesus Christ, as He is the true Healer.

  21. Who should attend the intensive session?
  22. A survivor of ritual abuse and as many of the support team as possible should plan to come.  The survivor MUST be accompanied by at least one support team member.  The person who attends must be responsible for the safety and support of the survivor during the intensive sessions especially involving overnight stays.  This offers support for the survivor to manage reactions to the sessions and to provide safety at night from current accessing by perpetrators.  Yes, perpetrator accessing during overnight intensives can occur if there is no one to help the survivor at night. It is often helpful to have at least two support team members to share in the responsibility of supporting the survivor through the night and attending the intensive sessions during the day.  The support team member who attends the deprogramming sessions with the survivor must have an interest and willingness to learn how to continue the deprogramming work when the intensive sessions end.

  23. What kind of educational training does the staff have?
  24. Jo Getzinger has been a Clinical Social Worker in private practice as a counselor for 15 years prior to beginning prayer ministry full time through C.A.R.E., Inc.  Although she has a Masters Degree in Social Work, she no longer practices as a licensed counselor because of the desire to involve prayer and deliverance ministry techniques in the counseling sessions. She recognizes that God is the true healer – not techniques learned from schooling and advanced trainings, however helpful some education might be.

  25. How much do the Prayer Ministry sessions cost?
  26. Because we do not take insurance or government support, we try to keep our expenses reasonable.  Please call us at 231-745-0500 to get our current rates.  We charge by the  hour, which goes to the upkeep of our warehouse and to pay the salaries of the staff.  Phone appointments are available at the same rate.  However, the first phone appointment of 15 minutes to discuss resources and assess needs is free of charge.

  27. Do you take any type of insurance or Medicaid?
  28. No, we do not.

  29. Do you offer a payment plan?
  30. We deal with each request as it comes in and try to work with each individual situation.

  31. Do you have any type of assisted funding program?
  32. We have a program that is called “Adopt-A-Survivor” fund.  This fund is set up to help those who need financial assistance.  The applicant for services must demonstrate financial need and be willing to pay l/2 of the cost of the session.  The applicant is encouraged to gather financial support from their church or community care team if they have difficulty meeting the cost before they apply to “Adopt A Survivor” fund.

  33. How long does healing take?  How much prayer counseling will I need?
  34. That is a question only God can answer.  It is dependent on how long the trauma lasted, how you perceived the trauma, how the trauma impacted various areas of your life, how it impacted your belief system concerning God, Jesus and yourself.  Remember healing is not a “quick fix”.  It is a process, which takes time, energy and focus.  Healing is intertwined with your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ and your ability to fully trust Him and give to Him your self-sufficiency.  It is learning to “fear the Lord” instead of fearing man or Satan.  It is a process of maturing Spiritually.

  35. Do you offer inpatient/housing services?
  36. No, we do not offer either inpatient or housing services.  For people who wish to stay longer than a week or a month, we have a community of survivors that live in and around Baldwin.  We have a house, which currently houses 8 survivors.  We have 15-20 survivors who are healing living in our community.  They act as a support for each other and any new people who are coming into the community. We do NOT offer safe housing.

  37. Do you have a board of directors?  What do your financial and personal accountability look like?

  38. We do have a board of directors and are responsible to our board members.  They bring a variety of skills to our organization.

We have two board meetings a year to review our fiscal status and responsibilities, as well as our personal progress as leaders of the community.
